The Galtres Festival Charitable Foundation has today confirmed that this year’s event at Duncombe Park, Helmsley, will proceed over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Despite financial difficulties experienced in the aftermath of last year’s event, Trustees have remained true to their commitment made last September to stage the eleventh annual festival - although the event this year will not be as big.

“Our tenth birthday celebrations last year were magnificent,” said a spokesperson for the festival. “The response from the public and the media was overwhelmingly euphoric, and we are tremendously proud of that.

“Sadly the event didn’t work financially, and some suppliers and traders couldn’t be paid. It was an awful situation which had a terrible impact on those affected.

“But we are determined to put it right. We’ve learnt a lot, and believe that the proceeds from the festival this year and in future years will enable us to turn things around.

“Parklands 2015 will be scaled down from last year. We’re proceeding cautiously, and will take care to tailor the size of the event to our audience numbers and income.

“But the quality will be every bit as good, if not even better! What our audience keeps telling us is that what they enjoy most about our festivals is discovering extraordinarily talented musicians and other performers on the smaller stages, sampling the fantastic beers and ciders, and soaking up the warm, safe and friendly atmosphere.

“We are all very excited as we embark on the next decade of events. We acknowledge contritely that we’ve not got everything right in the past, but we are committed to learning from that and putting things right. But we do know that we excel in putting on wonderful events that people love, and we’re going to go on getting better and better at that. We are hugely encouraged by the extent of support and love which surrounds our festivals, and we thank most profoundly everyone who has stood by us through thick and thin."
