FRIDAY 22 TO SUNDAY 24 AUGUST 2014 AT DUNCOMBE PARK, HELMSLEY, NORTH YORKSHIRE
John Otway
John first achieved notoriety with his eye-watering performance on Old Grey Whistle Test and subsequent hit single 'Really Free' in 1977. A heady mix of blind ambition and rank incompetence was to keep this microstar shining for decades despite Otway's ability to turn any situation to his own disadvantage. His autobiography 'Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure' out sold, by a factor of ten, all the records he had released since his hit, and now Otway is struggling to live up to this billing - selling out London Astoria for his 2000th gig, filling the Royal Albert Hall, and charting at number 9 with his single 'Bunsen Burner'. For John 'Two Hits' Otway, 'the future's bright; the future's Otway!
John return to Galtres Festival by popular demand, following his brilliant 2011 performance.
We are hoping also to be able to show John Otway's new film at Galtres. In order to celebrate his 60th birthday in 2012, John booked the Odeon Leicester Square to show the documentary of his life. Titled'Rock and Roll's Greatest Failure: Otway the Movie', the sell-out screening saw cinematic history made with the final scenes of the movie being filmed from the red carpet on the morning of the film. The film was funded by fans becoming producers who were all individually credited in the movie credits. Following the success of the producers' premiere, 2013 has seen Otway take the completed movie to the Cannes Film Festival and it has been screened in cinemas throughout the country. The film has been critically acclaimed - receiving a four star review from The Guardian newspaper - and has been put forward for several BAFTAs including "British Outstanding Debut".
