Celebrating Contemporary Songwriting & The Fab Four at ‘A Hard Night’s Day’ Saturday Sessions
The Saturday Sessions return to Galtres Parklands Festival this summer with a spectacular celebration of songwriting, both classic and contemporary. Dubbed 'A Hard Night’s Day', the Sessions will see an astounding roster of acoustic acts performing a selection of their own original songs and numbers from The Beatles’ back catalogue, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s seminal album, A Hard Day’s Night.
Curated by York-based acoustic hero David Ward Maclean, the Sessions will see the Black Howl Stage playing host to performances from internationally celebrated Bob Harris favourites Blue Rose Code (pictured), songwriters extraordinaire Keegan Snaize, inventive blues talent Lee Parry, legendary session host David Ward Maclean, bona fide rising star Jess Morgan, intelligent and sensitive performer Sam Griffiths, new folk gem Holly Taymar and elastic-voiced rocker-turned-acoustic-troubadour Zak Ford. The sessions will run from 11.30am to 7.30pm, leading up to the Sundown Sessions, which will feature performers including Beans on Toast, Martin Stephenson and Boss Caine.
Hard Night’s Day session curator and perfrom David Ward Maclean commented: “It's a great honour to be curating the Saturday Sessions again at Galtres. Following on from the success of the themes of the last two years, I've got some of the best acoustic acts around to come and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" album, by playing a set of their own wonderful songs plus one song of their choice from the Fab Four's catalogue. And I'm especially thrilled to have the fabulous Blue Rose Code trio to come up from London and headline the event.
“The Sessions are called "A Hard Night's Day", and we get another chance to enjoy more of those great songs from the Beatles at the end of the Festival with an event called "A Hard Day's Night", when York musical maestros Dave Keegan and Simon Snaize will finish off the weekend in the Black Howl tent with a set of fantastic versions of their favourite Beatles songs for you to dance and sing along to.”
