22 Aug 2014   19:00 to 19:45
Gilmore & Roberts

acoustic / country / folk / world /

Twice-nominated at BBC Folk Awards, contemporary folk/acoustic duo Gilmore & Roberts combine award-winning songwriting with astounding lap-tapping guitar, fiery fiddle and their trademark harmonies, creating a powerful wall of sound. Both are familiar faces to festival-goers nationwide from their previous projects - Gilmore with indie folk sensations Tiny Tin Lady, singer Rosie Doonan and more recently The Albion Band, and Roberts with young English traditionalists Kerfuffle.

Katriona Gilmore (from Knebworth, Hertfordshire) and Jamie Roberts (Barnsley and proud) met while studying at Leeds College of Music and began working together in 2006.

Gilmore and Roberts have been wowing audiences across the country with their unassumingly confident displays of instrumental technique ever since. In 2011 Katriona and Jamie spent five weeks touring with folk-rock legends Fairport Convention, performed at Cambridge Folk Festival and Fairport’s Cropredy Convention and completed their own 30-date nationwide tour.

Their début album Shadows & Half Light (2008) was proclaimed as 'one of the finest contemporary folk albums in recent memory' by FishRecords, two years later their second album scored them a Hancock Award for ‘Best Original Song’ (Fleetwood Fair). 2012 saw Gilmore & Roberts release their finest album to date, 'The innocent Left'. This record demonstrates a huge leap forward and showcases the duo’s remarkable scope – folk, bluegrass, country, pop and rock – while maintaining their own distinctive roots in the storytelling tradition.
