FRIDAY 28 TO SUNDAY 30 AUGUST 2015 AT DUNCOMBE PARK, HELMSLEY, NORTH YORKSHIRE
About Us
Young People and Families Policy
1. Introduction
Galtres Parklands Festival has always included a range of activities for children and young people, known until now as the Festival of Fun. This policy is intended to define the scope and purpose of those activities, and how this area of the Festival should develop.
2. General objectives
2.1 We don’t want to run a crèche – ie something for the kids to do while the parents go off and do other things
2.2 Activities should involve creativity and originality
2.3 Activities should involve a learning experience
2.4 Activities should broaden horizons and represent something different from the norm
2.5 Activities should have an end product – such as something they’ve made, or a performance
2.6 Activities should suit people of all ages, from small children to older adults, and where possible combine different age groups together as a cohesive group
2.7 Activities should be fun and entertaining
3. Specific objectives
3.1 Ideally each Festival would include workshops/activities and performance relating to several of the following:
-
Musical instruments
-
Song-writing
-
Dance & movement
-
Craft making / modeling
-
Art & sculpture
-
Cookery
-
Circus skills and acrobatics
-
Media skills – eg film making
-
Storytelling
-
Drama and costume
-
Environment, recycling and conservation
-
Puppetry
-
Physical challenges eg climbing wall
3.2 Participation and performance should be integrated into the main festival programme, and through this young people should feel that their involvement and contribution is valued and important
3.3 As well as specific learning / creative activities we should provide some more traditional entertainments, such as the vintage funfair, but avoid more commercial and widespread attractions.
